Make Widgets from Code Snippets

12 August 2008 1,430 views Comments

At Widgetbox, we believe anyone should be able to make great widgets and we strive to build fun and easy widget creation tools for our community. We just added a new feature that allows you to create a widget by pasting any code snippet into our Make a Widget page. Any settings provided in the snippet, usually unknown to the user, can be parsed out and modified easily before saving.

We see code snippets everywhere, from Youtube to Slideshare, as these sites attempt to give their users a way to put content from their site onto their users’ websites. The problem with this is the level of technical prowess required is often above their average users and the places upon which code snippets can be placed is limited.  Widgetizing this content is far easier and gives you a more powerful and flexible way to bring this content to your page. Combined with the added benefits of widget analytics, ability for it to be spread virally and additional exposure your widget will get when it’s registered in the Widgetbox Gallery make putting your content into Widgetbox a no-brainer!

Happy Widgetizing!

  • I like the concept of you guys allowing independent developers to work on new stuffs using the tools you guys provide.
  • Many developers have not seen the power of widgets. I think more awareness is needed.
  • I'm going to try making widgets. Seemed like a cool idea.
  • Widgets are an important component of blogs. Without them, the inter-connectivity would not be there.
  • Hi,

Once again after crash Nifty has started going up. Now we suggest all rises should be used as an opportunity to exit old long positions.
This bull run will continue for few more days. Overall market is in bearish mood as in medium term its just a small rally due to short covering
    and result season.

    Happy Trading,

  • It has been fairly easy for us to create widgets out of flash and js codes. Keep it up.
  • Why would anyone want to use widgets? I haven’t found a use for them yet. Apart from maybe giving someone else the ability to move things in and out of their sidebar. If you are the only one needing to edit your sidebar, then it makes sense just to edit the code directly IMO. Or maybe there’s something that widgets can do that I am unaware of?
  • Internet marketers have over the years realized the effectiveness of Widgets. It is a powerful promotional tool. Even Google is jumping on the bandwagon. The have a galore of widgets.
  • Wow it sounds interesting . Thanks got sharing ! I will definitely try it out.

  • Just make sure we can put multiple elements in the same file. Also it would be nice if we could insert code for other languages like say ... and not have VB or C# puke on it.
