What do you think the Sound of Color is?

Have you ever thought about how various colors sound?  If you think about it, colors, like smells and other sensations, get inevitably (and probably unconsciously) associated in our minds with feelings, memories, and sounds.  But how do you capture that?

Well, The Gap had a great idea.  They worked with 5 musicians: Dntel, Marie Digby, Swizz Beatz, The Blakes and The Raveonettes and they assigned each of them a color (red, yellow, green, blue and black/white, respectively).  The five artists wrote songs, and then those songs were handed over to different directors, who created videos for each of them.  The result?  The Sound of Color

These songs and videos are amazing.  They do a remarkable job of capturing not just how these colors sound, but also how they feel - which to me would dictate how they would sound.  I love in particular how they all seem to draw on shadows and transience (I know, I can't help it - I used to be an English teacher.  I'll stop there.)  Honestly, the best way to check them out is to watch them in this super cool widget.  Basically, Sound of Color threw these videos on YouTube, and then they worked with the Widgetbox developer Joelaz to create a streaming YouTube widget just for them so they could get quick and easy distribution.  Of course, they also wanted to take advantage of our awesome accelerators, so you can find this widget on Facebook and Bebo too.  Check it out, and let us know your favorites in the comments!
