Big thanks to the crew who organized Graphing Social Patterns in San Diego this week led by Dave McClure , Master of 500 Hats. We were honored to speak on an intriguing panel called "Widget Strategies & Social Platforms" to discuss how to use widgets as a marketing tool in the social networking space. Jeremiah Owyang from Forrester Research was our fantastic moderator and encouraged out-of-the-box thinking and great dialogue.
We were asked to describe Widgetbox using an icon. We decided on a ceramic frog and described Widgetbox as the place you come to make widgets like you do when you go to a make-your-own pottery shop. Once you're done, Widgetbox sticks your widget in its oven making it compatible with MySpace, Facebook, Blogger, and others. We described how the widget you make gets placed in our gallery for all to see, admire, and take with them. The analogy went over really well!
Thanks also to Beth Kanter for summarizing the panel and for mentioning Widgetbox in her session on "Giving Good Poke: Using social apps and media for social causes". She has some amazing stories on how she has used social media to help non-profits. Also, see Alex Nesbitt's summary on Digital Podcast.
