Creating your own Widget Gallery Just Got Easier!
Monday, July 14, 2008 at 10:04AM
Last week we released significant enhancements to our Custom Gallery product. Formerly called Remote Gallery, Widgetbox’s Custom Gallery allows anyone to create a fully customizable widget gallery on their website, giving their users access to the 70,000 plus widgets in our gallery.
A number of really great websites are currently using our Custom Gallery, including Typepad, Xanga, Amnesty Hypercube, Doodlekit, Freewebs, Friendcodes, Netvibes, Nimble.ie, Piczo, Synthasite, Webjam, and others. We’ve gotten great reviews from our partners about the benefits they’ve seen from allowing their users to find and get widgets on their sites, like how much their users love to express, learn and interact with widget content and the increased utility and stickiness widgets bring to consumer web platforms.
Following our press release last week, we’ve seen a tremendous increase in the number of sites interested in partnering with us to get their own Custom Gallery by Widgetbox. That makes us even more excited about these new tools that make it even easier to create and manage a Custom Gallery:
Faster set-up: Our goal is to make creating your own Custom Gallery a fast, easy, self-service experience. Some of our partners went live with their Custom Gallery in as little as two days after contacting us. That’s because we’ve automated and/or vastly simplified the steps to create a new Custom Gallery.
Multiple integration options: We want to ensure our partners have flexibility in determining how they present widgets on their site. Our pre-built, customizable interface can be embedded as an IFrame or placed in a pop-up window and is a really quick and easy way to get started (while still offering a custom appearance and UI). For partners who want complete control over the UI, or want to integrate Widgetbox widgets onto their site’s existing pages, we have easy-to-use XML, RSS, ATOM, and JSON feeds. For step-by-step instructions, see our Custom Gallery Integration Guide.
Improved widget content management: This is something our partners have requested for a while, so we are really excited to launch a bunch of new tools that give Custom Gallery owners more ways to organize and merchandise widgets. Every Custom Gallery can have up to 20 different categories. Partners can name the categories anything they want and handpick widgets for that category or specify criteria via tags and filters to dictate what widgets are included. Users can also “spotlight” specific widgets by category, chose how to sort each category, and order categories any way they like. We’ve also added the ability to include “smart categories” like: Top Rated, All Time Favorites, Newest, Hottest, Featured, Hidden Gems, and more as a great way to offer fun, dynamic content. For more details on all the new content management features, see our Custom Gallery Content Guide.
Consolidated dashboard: Lastly, we’ve redesigned the “My Gallery Dashboard” to make it easier and more intuitive to track Custom Gallery performance metrics and access all the appearance, content, and integration management tools in one centralized location.
We're really excited to launch Custom Galleries with so many new features that make it easy for our partners to create, manage and optimize their galleries. To contact us about getting your own Custom Gallery, visit Custom Gallery overview and fill in the form at the bottom of the page.
