Widgetbox’s MySpace support has just been substantially improved.

Improved Installation It’s faster, users no longer have to enter their MySpace usernames, and it installs to more places within MySpace.

Improved Linking Out As you may know, MySpace disables all links in Flash files. Our old solution for this, SoftKeys, has been replaced by a more intuitive solution where the user cuts and pastes URL.

Improved Get Widget Button. The Get Widget button should be much more viral because it links directly back to the widget’s details page, rather than going through our Flash link out solution We did this by embedding it as HTML in the page, rather than using our usual Flash button.

MySpace App Gallery. Every single Widgetbox widget, including Javascript widgets, are now registerable in the MySpace application gallery.

Below is a visual tour.

Improved Installation
We now use MySpace’s ‘Post to MySpace’ feature.

Why is this good?

It’s
faster.

Users don’t have to give us their MySpace usernames and passwords.

It supports posting to MySpace blogs and the bulletin, which MySpace users use to communicate with their friends. This increases the virality of your widget.

All widgets automatically get this new installer. Here’s a screenshot of the MySpace side of things:

Improved Linking Out

MySpace disables all links in Flash files. Our old solution for this, SoftKeys, has been replaced by a solution where the user is asked to cut & paste the URL.

In user testing we have found this to be much more effective at getting people to follow links.

Developers don’t need to do anything to get this new support. The API hasn’t changed.

MySpace App Gallery
MySpace now has an application gallery. Widgetbox has done the hard work of translating your widgets into MySpace applications. Developers, you can register all your Widgetbox widgets in the MySpace gallery, including Javascript widgets.

To do this, go to the Widgetbox dashboard of your widget. Look for Add to More Galleries and follow the instructions:
